This article deals with an inversion of handedness, or chirality, of a thin elastic rod with a certain structure along its axial coordinate, which the authors call intrinsic curvature. The inversion is known as a perversion phenomena, e.g., of a tendril. They modify the static Kirchhoff equations in order to describe the handedness phenomena of such a elastic rod in the framework of the elastic curve theory and investigate such an elastic rod in detail. By decomposing its normal and axial structure, they investigate the perversion as heteroclinic connections and bifurcation phenomena.
