One of the focuses of modern abelian group theory is finding the structure of the divisible group Ext\((G, A)\) when \(G\) and \(A\) are torsion-free groups. However, the homological properties of \(A\)-solvable groups can better be described using the subgroup \(B\text{ext}^1_A(G, A)\) of Ext\((G, A)\) where \(B\text{ext}^1_A(G, A)\) is the set of equivalence classes of balanced extensions of \(A\) by \(G\). The current note compares the ranks of these groups in 2 theorems. Theorem 0.1: Let \(A\) be a countable reduceed torsion-free abelian group whose endomorphism ring is a hereditary subring of a finite-dimensional \(\mathbb Q\)-algebra. If \(G\) is a countable torsion-free \(A\)-solvable group which is not \(A\)-projective then \(r_0(B\text{ext}^1_A(G,A)) = 2^{\aleph_0} = r_0(\text{Ext}(G,A))\). The other theorem focuses on the \(p\)-rank of \(B\text{ext}^1_A(G, A)\). The author also mentions that the results of the paper can be extended to uncountable \(A\)-solvable groups by applying set theory, but chose to have the focus be on algebraic methods rather than set theoretic.
