Es wird gezeigt, dass die Methode des willkürlichen Factors, welche von Clebsch im \(\S\) 4 seiner Abhandlung: ``Ueber die Reduction der zweiten Variation auf ihre einfachste Form'' für die Transformation des einfachen Integrals gegeben wurde, auch auf das Doppelintegral anwendbar ist.
