Let \(\sigma, \tau\) be radical classes of \(l\)-groups and \(\sigma < \tau\). If for any radical class \(\varrho \neq 0\) with \(\varrho < \tau \), we have \(\varrho \wedge \sigma \neq 0\), then \(\tau \) is called the essential extension of \(G\). In this article the following main results are obtained. Theorem 2.2. Every nonzero radical class has an essential extension. Theorem 2.5. Let \(\sigma \neq 0\). Then \(\sigma \) is a polar class if and only if it is essentially closed. Theorem 2.7. A radical class is a polar class if and only if it is complete. Theorem 2.8. A nonzero polar radical class is finitely join-irreducible. Some relations between polar radical classes and essential extensions of \(l\)-groups are established.
