Let \(V_{R_ 2}\) be a sphere of radius \(R_ 2\) surrounded by a vacuum. Then, the mono-energetic neutron transport operator for a spherically- symmetric, isotropically-scattering medium is defined by \[ S\psi =- \delta \psi /2r-(1-\mu^ 2)/r\partial \psi /\partial \mu -\Sigma (r)\psi +c(r)/2\int^{1}_{-1}\psi (r,\quad \mu ')d\mu '. \] Here \(\Sigma\) (r) is the total cross-section, c(r) denotes the scattering cross-section, and \(\psi\) (r,\(\mu)\) is the angle density which satisfies the boundary condition \(\psi (R_ 2,\mu)=0\), if \(\mu <0\). In \(L^ 2\), we consider the existence of complex eigenvalues for \(\Sigma_ 1(r)=\Sigma\), \(c(r)=c\), \(R_ 2-d\leq r\leq R_ 2\); \(\Sigma_ 1(r)=0\), \(c(r)=0\), \(r\leq R_ 2-d\) and give the following result: Let \(\Lambda_ k\) be the rectangle in the \(\lambda\) plane with sides parallel to the axes and the points \(-(\ln (k\pi /(2cR_ 2)^{1/2})+R_ 2\Sigma +ik\pi)/R_ 2,\) \(- (\ln (12k\pi /(2cR_ 2)^{1/2})+R_ 2\Sigma +i(k+1)\pi)/R_ 2,\) as opposite vertices. Then there exists a real number \(d_ 0\), \(0<d_ 0<R_ 2\), and integer \(k_ 0\) such that for \(d\leq d_ 0\), \(k\geq k_ 0\), each \(\lambda_ k\) and each \({\bar \Lambda}{}_ k\), contains an eigenvalue of S when \(\Sigma_ 1(r)\), c(r) satisfy the above conditions.
