The paper is concerned with the eigenvalue problem \[ \begin{aligned} & y^{(4)}-(gy')'=\lambda^2 y\text{ on }[0,a],\\ & B_j(\lambda)y=0,\quad j=1,2,3,4,\end{aligned} \] where \(a>0\), \(g\in C^1([0,a])\) is a real valued function, \(B_j(\lambda)\) are defined by \(B_j(\lambda)y=y^{[p_j]}(a_j)+i\varepsilon_j \alpha \lambda y^{[q_j]}(a_j)\) or \(B_j(\lambda)y=y^{[p_j]}(a_j)\) with \(a_j=0\) for \(j=1,2\), \(a_j=a\) for \(j=3,4\), \(\alpha>0\), \(\varepsilon_j\in\{-1,1\}\), and \(y^{[k]}\) are the quasi-derivatives associated with the equation above, namely, \(y^{[0]}=y\), \(y^{[1]}=y'\), \(y^{[2]}=y''\), \(y^{[3]}=y^{(3)}-gy'\), \(y^{[4]}=y^{(4)}-(gy')'\). The authors discuss the location of the eigenvalues and they evaluate explicitly the first four terms of the eigenvalue asymptotics.
