The authors investigate the initial-boundary value problem for a linear viscoelastic wave equation with a linear damping and a delay term \[ u_{tt}(x,t)-\Delta u(x,t)+\int_0^t g(t-s)\Delta u(x,s){ d}s+\mu_1u_{t}(x,t)+\mu_2u_{t}(x,t-\tau)=0,\;\;x\in \Omega,\, t>0, \] \[ u(x,t)=0,\;x\in \partial\Omega,\;t\geq 0;\;u(x,0)=u_0(x),\;u_t(x,0)=u_1(x),\;x\in \Omega, \] \[ u_t(x,t-\tau)=f_0(x,t-\tau),\;x\in \Omega,\;t\in (0,\tau), \] where \(\Omega\) is a regular and bounded domain of \(\mathbb{R}^N,\;N\geq 1,\;\mu_1>0,\;\mu_2>0.\) They prove the global existence of a solution using the Faedo-Galerkin method. The general decay results of the energy are established via suitable Lyapunov functionals.
