The Yangian Y(\({\mathfrak a})\) is defined as quantum deformation of \({\mathfrak a}[t]\), where \({\mathfrak a}\) is a finite-dimensional complex simple Lie algebra and t an indeterminate. Y(\({\mathfrak a})\) is a Hopf algebra. For the Lie algebra \({\mathfrak a}[t]\) one has the evaluation homomorphisms \(\epsilon_ a: {\mathfrak a}[t]\to {\mathfrak a}\) for any \(a\in {\mathbb{C}}\). Pulling back a representation \(\pi\) of \({\mathfrak a}\) by such a map gives a so-called ``evaluation representation'' \(\pi \circ \epsilon_ a\) of \({\mathfrak a}[t]\), and it is known that every finite-dimensional irreducible representation of \({\mathfrak a}[t]\) is isomorphic to a tensor product of evaluation representations. When \({\mathfrak a}={\mathfrak sl}_ 2\), the evaluation homomorphisms admit a quantization \(\epsilon_ a: Y({\mathfrak sl}_ 2)\to U({\mathfrak sl}_ 2)\). The main result of this paper is: Theorem. Every finite-dimensional irreducible representation of Y(\({\mathfrak sl}_ 2)\) is isomorphic to a tensor product of evaluation representations. At the end of the paper the authors obtain an expression of rational solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation in terms of intertwining operators between tensor products of certain representations of Y(\({\mathfrak a})\).
