The relationship between layer-resolving transformations and mesh-generating functions for the numerical solution of singularly perturbed boundary-value problems is analyzed. Basically, the analysis is carried out for one-dimensional non-turning point quasilinear problems of the type \[ -\varepsilon u'' - b(x,u)' + c(x,u) =0, \quad (0,1), \quad u(0) = u(1) = 0, \] which are discretized by first-order finite difference schemes. \(\varepsilon\)-uniform pointwise convergence is proved when the boundary-value problem is directly discretized on meshes which are generated by a broad class of layer-resolving functions. Some specific layer-resolving functions are given. Numerical results supporting the theory are presented.
