3-dimensional manifolds; Yamabe invariant The authors prove that for all nonnegative integers \(k\), \(\ell\), \(m\), \(n\) the Yamabe invariant of the connected sum \[ \# k(\mathbb{R} P^3)\# \ell(\mathbb{R} P^2\times \mathbb{S}^1)\# m(\mathbb{S}^2\times \mathbb{S}^1)\# n(\mathbb{S}^2\widetilde\times \mathbb{S}^1) \] is equal to the Yamabe invariant of \(\mathbb{R} P^3\) provided \(k+\ell\geq 1\). Then they show that all closed 3-manifolds with Yamabe invariant greater than that of \(\mathbb{R} P^3\) are either \(\mathbb{S}^3\) or finite connected sums \(\# m(\mathbb{S}^2\times \mathbb{S}^1)\# n(\mathbb{S}^2\widetilde\times\mathbb{S}^1)\). Here \(\mathbb{S}^2\widetilde\times \mathbb{S}^1\) denotes the nonorientable \(\mathbb{S}^2\)-bundle over the circle.
