The main results of the paper are as follows. Theorem A. There exist a \(C^{\infty}\) smooth planar vector field X, with an isolated singularity at the origin, that is not a rotation point, and a smooth rescaling Y of X, such that Y is not conjugate to X in any neighbourhood of the origin. Theorem B. Two isolated singularities, which are not rotation points and have at most finitely many separatrices, are locally conjugate if and only if the singularities have the same configuration of sectors, and the transit time maps between local sections of corresponding hyperbolic sectors are, up to a reparametrization of the initial section, ''asymptotically the same'' (in a natural sense). Examples of equivalent but nonconjugate singularities are also given. Five open questions are stated.
