The article is aimed at using ideas developed by \textit{R. A. Bryce}, \textit{J. Cossey} and \textit{E. A. Ormerod} [Group theory, Proc. Conf., Singapore 1987, 293-321 (1989; Zbl 0667.20016)] and by \textit{B. McCann} [doctoral thesis (1985; Zbl 0584.20009)] to produce a reduction theorem of the McCann type for the Fitting class generated by certain groups. Furthermore the question is addressed whether or not a Fitting class generated by a finite soluble group contains only a finite number of sub- Fitting classes. Finally, new Fitting classes of the Dark type are constructed.
