A new technique is developed to show that the homoclinic solution of a singularly perturbed system may be constructed near the singular one as the transverse intersection of the center-unstable and center-stable manifolds of the rest point. This is done by tracking the tangent planes to the unstable manifold as the latter travels close to the singular solution. Differential forms are used to obtain this tracking. The central result called Exchange Lemma is the transversal intersection of an invariant manifold and a center-stable manifold defined for some manifold of critical points. This result is used to prove a general theorem about the existence of homoclinic solutions in singularly perturbed equations.
