Following results by Hassard and Zhang there exists a value \(\rho\in (13.9265,\;13.9270)\) such that the Lorenz system \[ \dot x=\sigma \cdot (y-x),\quad \dot y= \rho x-y-zx,\quad \dot z= xy-bz, \] with \(\sigma=10\), \(b= {8\over 3}\), \(\rho= \rho_H\) has homoclinic orbits. The paper is due to analytic and numerical computations for these orbits. From the authors abstract: ``\(\dots\) global approximations are used to match the local expansions. The matching procedure resembles the one used in Padé approximations''.
