The authors present a model for competition between normal and tumor cells on some resource, e.g., phosphorus. The simplest model is a system of nonlinear delay-differential equations in 3 variables (cancer cells, normal cells and number of blood vessels). Analytic results for the local and global stability of the homogeneous equilibrium solution are given. Numerical simulations for the model are also presented. An interesting conclusion of this study is that the competition on resources may be more relevant to tumor growth than birth and death rates.
