Die Arbeit enthält eine mathematische Discussion der Bedingung des Herabsteigens von unbegrenzter Länge und von gleichförmigem rechtwinkligen Schnitt und Abdachung. Es wird bewiesen, dass das Mer de Glace durch seine Schwere allein nicht so herabsteigen kann, wie es thut.
