The existence of complete Kähler-Einstein metrics on strictly convex domains was studied under various hypotheses (cf. [\textit{S.-Y. Cheng} and \textit{S.-T. Yau}, Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 33, 507--544 (1980; Zbl 0506.53031)], [\textit{N. Mok} and \textit{S.-T. Yau}, in: Proc. Symp. Pure Math. 39, Part 1, Bloomington/Indiana 1980, 41--59 (1983; Zbl 0526.53056)], etc.). The first result of this paper gives a generalization of those existence theorems. More precisely, if \(M\) is a strictly pseudo convex domain in a complex manifold, i.e. \(S=\partial M\) has a positive CR structure, then \(M\) admits a unique complete Kähler-Einstein metric if and only if the canonical bundle \(K_{M}\) is positive. Then the author studies the case of the CR structure on the boundary \(S\) being normal, i.e. it is preserved by a transverse vector field. It was shown that any strictly pseudoconvex manifold with a normal CR structure on \(S\) is a domain in a resolution of the Sasaki cone \(C(S)\) of the natural Sasaki structure on \(S\). This restriction is used to study conformal boundaries of Kähler-Einstein manifolds. The author proves that a simply connected normal CR manifold \((S, D, J)\) can not be a conformal boundary of a Kähler-Einstein manifold if a compatible Sasaki-Einstein metric satisfies \(c_{1}(D)=0\) and \(c_{1}^{B}>0\). This result mostly determines those normal CR 3-manifolds that can be CR infinities except for several exceptional cases. Finally, many examples in which the main theorem applies are given. For instance, there exists a complete Kähler-Einstein metric on the tubular neighborhood of the zero section of any negative holomorphic vector bundle on a compact complex manifold whose total space satisfies \(c_{1}<0\).
