Let \(f:\mathbb{C}^n \to\mathbb{R}\) be a real-valued polynomial in \(z\) and \(\overline z\) homogeneous of the same degree \(m\) in each of these variables i.e. \(f(z,\overline z) = \sum_{|\alpha|=m} \sum_{|\beta|=m} c_{\alpha\beta}z^\alpha \overline z^\beta\) and \(c_{\alpha\beta} = \overline {c_{\beta\alpha}} (\alpha,\beta\)-multiindices). The main result is: \(f\) achieves a positive minimum value on the unit sphere if and only if there is an integer \(d\) such that the multimatrix \([E_{\mu\nu}]\) is positive definite, where \(E_{\mu\nu}\) are defined by \(|z|^{2d} f(z,\overline z) = \sum E_{\mu\nu} z^\mu\overline z^\nu\). It generalizes the Polya theorem for polynomials in real variables. As applications the authors give the following theorems: 1. if \(p:\mathbb{C}^n \to\mathbb{C}^k\) is a homogeneous (holomorphic) polynomial mapping and \(|p(z)|<1\) on the unit sphere, then there exists a polynomial mapping \(g:\mathbb{C}^n \to\mathbb{C}^{N-k}\) such that \(P\oplus g:\mathbb{C}^n \to\mathbb{C}^N\) is a proper holomorphic mapping between unit balls. 2. If \(f(z,\overline z)\) is a real-valued polynomial of degree \(m\) and \(f(z, \overline z) > 0\) on the unit sphere then there exists a (holomorphic) polynomial mapping \(g: \mathbb{C}^n\to \mathbb{C}^N\) such that \(f(z,\overline z) = |g(z) |^2\) on the unit sphere.
