In [Collect. Math. 44, No.~1--3, 155--165 (1993; Zbl 0817.46022)], \textit{W.~ Kurc} considered uniform monotonicity in Banach lattices and introduced a property, order uniform smoothness, so that the two properties corresponded under duality. In the article under review, the authors introduce a class of Banach lattices, the order uniform noncreasy Banach lattices, that contains both the uniformly monotone Banach lattices and the order uniform smooth Banach lattices. A Banach lattice \(X\) is order uniformly noncreasy if there exists \(0<r<1\) such that for every \(u, v\in \frac12 B(X)\), either \(\| | u| \vee | v| \| \leq r\) or, for every \(y\in X\),\ \(| y| \leq | u-v| \) and \(\| y\| \geq r\) imply that \(\| | u-v| \| \leq r\). The authors use this definition to obtain new results in metric fixed point theory. In particular, the authors prove results more general than the following: weakly orthogonal, uniformly monotone Banach lattices have weak normal structure; and weakly orthogonal, order uniformly noncreasy Banach lattices have the weak fixed point property.
