\(\mathcal O\)-operators arise in connection with the classical Yang-Baxter equation. An associative version occurs in renormalization theory [\textit{A. Connes} and \textit{D. Kreimer}, Commun. Math. Phys. 199, No. 1, 203-242 (1998; Zbl 0932.16038)]. A special case of this is a Rota-Baxter operator of an associative algebra which can be viewed, in the weight zero case, as an inverse derivation. \textit{M. Aguiar} [in his papers on ``Infinitesimal Hopf algebras'', Contemp. Math. 267, 1-29 (2000; Zbl 0982.16028) and ``Pre-Poisson algebras'', Lett. Math. Phys. 54, No. 4, 263-277 (2000; Zbl 1032.17038)] has shown that Rota-Baxter operators of weight zero arise from solutions of the associative Yang-Baxter equation \[ r_{13}r_{12}-r_{12}r_{23}+r_{23}r_{13}=0. \] In the paper under review, the authors introduce an extended \(\mathcal O\)-operator whose Lie algebra analogue applies to generalized Lax pairs and Post-Lie algebras. In the extended view, a relationship between \(\mathcal O\)-operators and a generalized associative Yang-Baxter equation is obtained.
