A \(C^*\)-algebra is subhomogeneous if there is a uniform finite bound on the dimensions of its irreducible representations and approximately subhomogeneous (ASH) if it is the limit of a direct system of subhomogeneous \(C^*\)-algebras. In the paper, the author shows that a simple and unital ASH \(C^*\)-algebra with slow dimension growth has the same Cuntz semigroup \(W(A)\) as its tensor product with the Jiang-Su algebra \(\mathcal Z\), i.e., \(W(A) \cong W(A\otimes \mathcal Z)\). The author combines this with a result of \textit{W. Winter} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 89, No. 2, 427--456 (2004; Zbl 1081.46049)] -- namely, let \(A\) be a unital simple separable C*-algebra with locally finite nuclear dimension with the Cuntz semigroup \(W(A)\) stable under \(\mathcal Z\); i.e., \(W(A) \cong W(A \otimes \mathcal Z)\), then \(A \cong A \otimes \mathcal Z\) -- to obtain that a unital simple separable ASH \(C^*\)-algebra has slow dimension if and only if \(A \cong A \otimes \mathcal Z\).
