This paper studies monotone dynamics and global behaviors of a West Nile virus model with mosquito demographics. The male and female mosquitoes have sizes \(M_M(t)\) and \(F_M(t)\), and only female adult mosquitoes are responsible for the virus transmission. The female population is divided into susceptible \(S_M(t)\) and infected \(I_M(t)\). The mating function is taken as \(h=\rho_M(S_M +I_M)M_M/(S_M +I_M+M_M)\), where \(\rho_M\) is the reproductive rate of female adult mosquitoes. The demographic in the aquatic stage is described by \(dA_M/dt=h(1-A_M/K)-\mu_AA_M-\gamma_MA_M\), where \(A_M\) is the size of the mosquitoes in the aquatic stage, \(\gamma_M\) and \(\mu_A\) are the maturation rate and death rate, respectively. The global dynamics as well as the existence of multiple equilibria and backward bifurcation are investigated. Based on the second compound matrix and Poincaré-Bendixson theory, the authors examine the limit epidemic subsystem with a classification study.
