A well-known theorem of \textit{C. H. Dowker} [Bull. Am. Math. Soc. 50, 120--122 (1944; Zbl 0061.37806)] says that the maximum area of \(n\)-gons inscribed in a planar convex body \(K\) is a concave function of \(n\), and that the minimum area of \(n\)-gons circumscribed about \(K\) is a convex function of \(n\). Here, the area can be replaced by the perimeter. In the present paper, the authors prove analogous results, with \(K\) replaced by a hyperconvex disc of radius \(r\) and the \(n\)-gons replaced by convex disc-\(n\)-gons of radius \(r\). Hyperconvex discs (disc-\(n\)-gons) of radius \(r\) are intersections, with interior points, of closed circular discs of radius \(r\) (of finitely many such discs, and with \(n\) vertices). A further result concerns hyperconvex discs with \(k\)-fold rotational symmetry. The extension of the results to the sphere and the hyperbolic plane is also discussed.
