The collection \(P(A,n)\) of all \(n\)-ary partial operations on a set \(A\) constitutes an algebra under the usual \((n+1)\)-ary (total) operation of composition, all nonempty subalgebras of which are Menger algebras in the sense of \textit{B. M. Schein} and \textit{V. S. Trohimenko} [Semigroup Forum 17, 1--64 (1979; Zbl 0397.08001)]. When the \(n\)-ary partial operations on \(A\) are regarded as subsets of the \((n+1)\)st Cartesian power of \(A\), \(P(A,n)\) as well as its nonempty subalgebras closed under set-theoretic difference are called difference Menger algebras, the case \(n=1\) corresponding to the difference semigroups of \textit{B. M. Schein} [Commun. Algebra 20, No. 8, 2153--2169 (1992; Zbl 0798.20058)]. In the present paper the authors propose an abstract concept of substraction Menger algebra which they show to be equivalent to the notion of difference Menger algebra up to isomorphism.
