    Let \(E\) be a real reflexive Banach space with a weakly continuous duality map \(J_\varphi\) with gauge \(\varphi\). Take a \(m\)-accretive map \(A\) in \(E\) with \(C:=\text{cl}(D(A))\) convex, a non-expansive map \(T:C\to C\) with \(F:=F(T)\cap N(A)\neq \emptyset\) and a contraction map \(f:C\to C\) with contraction constant \(\alpha\). Suppose that \((\alpha_n),(\beta_n),(\gamma_n)\subset (0,1)\) with \(\alpha_n+\beta_n+\gamma_n=1\), \(\forall n\) and \((r_n)\subset (0,\infty)\) satisfy \textbf{i)} \(\sum_{n=1}^\infty \alpha_n=\infty\), \(\alpha_n\to 0\), \textbf{ii)} \(0< \liminf_n \beta_n\leq \limsup \beta_n< 1\), \textbf{iii)} \(\lim_n r_n=r\in R^*\). Then, the iterative process \[ x_{n+1}=\alpha_nf(x_n)+\beta_nx_n+\gamma_nT J_{r_n}x_n \] converges strongly to the unique solution \(p\in F\) of the variational inequality \(\langle(I-f)p,J(p-q)\rangle\leq 0\), \(f\in \Sigma_C\), \(q\in F\). The result improves the one in \textit{L. Hu} and \textit{L. Liu} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl., Ser. A, Theory Methods 70, No. 6, A, 2344--2351 (2009; Zbl 1218.47101)].
