The author considers the system \[ x'=xf(t,x,y),\qquad y'=yg(t,x,y),\quad x,y>0, \] where \(f\) and \(g\) are periodic in time with a common period. These equations are interpreted as a prey-predator system and the goal of the paper is to obtain sufficient conditions for persistence. The notion of persistence is understood in the following sense: given a positive number \(R\) there exists \(\varepsilon_R >0\) such that if \((u(t),v(t))\) is a solution with \[ \limsup_{t\to +\infty} u(t)<R,\quad \limsup_{t\to +\infty} v(t)<R \] then \[ \liminf_{t\to +\infty} u(t)>\varepsilon_R ,\quad \liminf_{t\to +\infty} v(t)>\varepsilon_R . \] The conditions imposed on \(f\) and \(g\) are close to those in \textit{T. A. Burton} and \textit{V. Hutson} [Differ. Integral Equ. 4, No. 6, 1269-1280 (1991; Zbl 0733.34053)].
