Hille-Yosida operators and Cauchy problems (Q633187)

The author considers the abstract inhomogeneous Cauchy problem \[ \begin{aligned} u'(t) &= Au(t)+ f(t),\quad t\in [0,T],\\ u(0) &= u_0,\end{aligned} \] where \(A\) is the Hille-Yosida operator of type \((M,\omega)\). A new proof of a temporal regularity result is given, having consequences on the existence of other types of solutions. New types of weak solutions are introduced. The idea is based on the approximation of the inhomogeneous problem instead of the homogeneous problem. The Yosida type approximants are used. The treatment does not require semigroup theory. Several examples are given.
