Let \[ S_\lambda(f_a)(x)=\frac{\pi^{d/2}a^d}{\Gamma(d/2+1)}+a^{d/2} \sum\limits_{0<|n|<\lambda}\frac{J_{d/2}(2\pi a|n|)}{|n|^{d/2}} e^{2\pi inx} \] be the \(\lambda\)-th partial sum of the Fourier expansion of the function \(\chi_a(x)=1\) if \(|x|\leq a\) and \(0\) otherwise. Important is a related function \(\widetilde\chi_a(x)\) that differs from \(\chi_a\) only if \(|x|=a\) where it equals \(1/2\), and two series \[ f_a(x)=\sum\limits_{n\in\mathbb Z^d}\chi_a(x+n),\qquad \widetilde f_a(x)=\sum\limits_{n\in\mathbb Z^d}\widetilde\chi_a(x+n), \] with \(x\in\mathbb T^d.\) Hardy's identity is now \(\widetilde f_a(0)=\lim\limits_{\lambda\to\infty}S_\lambda(f_a)(0)\) for \(d=2\). Some time ago the first named author proved a similar relation for any \(x\in{\mathbb T}^2.\) The main result of the paper is a representation of \(S_\lambda(f_a)(x)\) as \(\widetilde f_a(x)\) and the sum of three values: the first one is responsible for the Gibbs-Wilbraham phenomenon, the second one for the Pinsky phenomenon, and the third one for the phenomenon recently discovered by the first author of this paper. Various properties of these ingredients are studied in detail and illustrated by graphs calculated by means of \texttt{Mathematica}.
