Here, the concept of rated stability is introduced for ordinary differential equations of the general form \[ \frac{dx}{dt}=F(x,t) \] with \(F:\Omega\to \mathbb{R}^{n}\), \(\Omega=\{(x,t):\|x\|<H, t\geq 0\}\), \(H\) is a positive real number or \(+\infty\). Any differentiable function \(\phi:[0,\infty)\to \mathbb{R}^{n}\) with \(\{(t,\phi(t)):t\geq 0\}\subset\Omega\) is said to be a rated motion to system (1). Due to the author's definition, ``the motion \(x=0\) to system (1) be rated stable if for any number \(\varepsilon>0\) it is possible to choose quantities \(T(\varepsilon)\geq 0\) and \(\delta(\varepsilon)>0\) such that for any value \(t_{0}\geq T(\varepsilon)\) and for any \(n\)-dimensional vector \(x_{0}\) satisfying the condition \(\|x_{0}\|<\delta(\varepsilon)\), the inequality \(\|x(t,t_{0},x_{0})\|<\varepsilon\) holds for all \(t\geq t_{0}\)''. The concepts of asymptotic rated stability and instability are introduced by a similar manner. More than a dozen theorems on stability in terms of Lyapunov-like functions are stated and proved. Two examples are given: (i) the rated motion \(x=0\) is a rated stable motion for the equation \(\dot x=(1+t)^{-2}\), \(t\geq 0\); (ii) the rated motion \(x=0\) is an asymptotic rated stable motion for the equation \(\dot x=-x+e^{-2t}\), \(t\geq 0\). The concept was discussed by the author in the earlier papers [Vestn. St. Petersbg. Univ., Math. 26, No. 1, 19-22 (1993; Zbl 0835.34056); ibid. 26, No. 2, 61-64 (1993, Zbl 0835.34057); ibid. 26, No. 4, 33-39 (1993; Zbl 0835.34058); ibid. 27, No. 1, 18-22 (1994; Zbl 0856.34063); ibid. 27, No. 2, 11-15 (1994; Zbl 0856.34064); ibid. 27, No. 4, 23-27 (1994; Zbl 0856.34065)].
