The authors extend the algebraic models of Quillen and Sullivan for rational homotopy theory to the setting of disconnected spaces with finitely many nilpotent path components. The work is carried out in the framework of closed model categories building on the treatment of rational homotopy theory in [\textit{A. K. Bousfield} and \textit{V. K. A. M. Gugenheim}, Mem. Am. Math. Soc. 179, 94 p. (1976; Zbl 0338.55008)] and the results in [\textit{V. Hinich}, Commun. Algebra 25, No. 10, 3291--3323 (1997; Zbl 0894.18008)]. The extension of Sullivan's rational homotopy theory to the disconnected case is obtained using Hinich's closed model category structure on the class of \(\mathbb{Z}\)-graded commutative differential graded algebras (cdgas). Hinich's version of Koszul duality is then adapted to give an equivalence between a homotopy category of disconnected cdgas and a homotopy category of complete differential graded Lie algebras (dglas). The result is an extension of Quillen's dgla framework for rational homotopy theory to the disconnected setting. Among other applications, the authors prove that the Mauer-Cartan simplicial set of a disjoint product of complete dglas is weakly equivalent to the disjoint union of the corresponding simplicial sets. The paper is carefully written and should become a standard reference for research in this area.
