The author establishes an analogue of Schreier's formula for subalgebras of free Lie algebras in terms of formal power series. Similar formulae are given for free Lie \(p\)-algebras and superalgebras. As an application the author computes the Hilbert-Poincaré series for some finitely generated solvable Lie algebras and groups.
