The author generalizes a previous result of \textit{H. Brézis} and \textit{L. Veron} [Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 75, 1-6 (1980; Zbl 0459.35032)] on removable singularities. Brézis and Veron consider the case of finite sets of singularities for a semilinear uniformly elliptic problem. In the present paper the author considers elliptic operators that may degenerate on the boundary of the set \(F\) of singularities, the set \(F\) may be an arbitrary compact set (in \(\Omega\)) and the nonlinearities in the unknown function may be more general.
