The authors construct open sets of pairs of affine Cantor sets with the simplest possible combinatorics (defined by two affine expansive maps) which have a stable intersection in many relative positions (and so their arithmetic differences persistently contain nontrivial intervals), but do not satisfy the generalized thickness conditions of \textit{C. G. T. de A. Moreira} [Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Anal. Nonlinéaire 13, 747--781 (1996; Zbl 0865.58035)] The main result is given in Theorem 2 (Section 2) where it is demonstrated that there exists a nonempty compact recurrent set in relative configuration while the product of lateral thickness \(\tau_R(K)\cdot\tau_L(K^\prime)\) is smaller than one. It is also presented (Section 5) the topological structure of difference sets \(K-\lambda K^\prime\).
