In the last decade of 20th century A. Levin and D. Lubinsky developed a theory of orthogonal polynomials with exponential weights of the form \(W=e^{-Q}\) on the interval \([-1,1]\). They introduced a class \(\mathcal{F}(C^2)\) of such weights for which certain bounds for the corresponding orthogonal polynomials, the asymptotic behavior of their leading coefficients and zeros, of the \(L^p\) extremal errors, Jacobi parameters, and Christoffel functions are available. The author studies the following modification of the Levin-Lubinsky weights \[ W_\rho(x)=(1-x^2)^\rho\,W(x),\qquad W\in\mathcal{F}(C^2),\quad \rho\in\mathbb{R}. \] He proves that under some additional assumptions on \(Q\) and \(\rho\) the new weight \(W_\rho\in\mathcal{F}(C^2)\). So the theory of A. Levin-D. Lubinsky applies to \(W_\rho\) to the full extent.
