Sharp local well-posedness results for the nonlinear wave equation (Q816326)

The authors prove sharp local well-posedness results for the initial-value problem of the nonlinear wave equation with quadratic nonlinearities in the first order derivatives. It is shown that the problem is locally well-posed in Sobolev spaces of order \((s,s-1)\) with s bigger than \(7/4\) (for \(n=2)\), and s bigger than \((n+1)/2\) for \(n=3,4,5\). The main tool is the use of Strichartz estimates which are adequate for the problem.
