Nonlinear partial differential equations associated with binormal motions of constant torsion curves in Minkowski 3-space (Q1925816)

The authors study purely binormal motions of curves of constant torsion in three-dimensional Minkowski space. In particular, they consider three different cases: timelike curves, spacelike curve with timelike principal normal and spacelike curve with spacelike principal normal. They show how these three motions generate three nonlinear partial differential equations and give Bäcklund transformations for these three equations and for the surfaces swept out by related motions. As an application, the Bäcklund transformations are used to derive new solutions of the equations( begining with trivial seed solutions) and new surfaces are obtained.
