In the paper a \(N\)-site \(U_q(\text{gl}(N))\) integrable spin chain with periodic and open diagonal soliton-preserving boundary conditions is studied. The main results of the paper are: (i) the algebraic structures which are needed for the study of spin chains models are introduced. They consist in the quantum affine algebra and the quantum reflection algebra, both of them based on the \((\text{gl}(N))\) algebra. The irreducible finite-dimensional representations of the quantum reflection algebra are considered and those of the quantum reflection algebra is studied; (ii) the spin chains associated to the algebraic structures (i.e. closed spin chains for quantum affine algebra and the soliton preserving open spin chain for the quantum reflection algebra) are constructed. Their spectrum, through the use of the analytical Bethe ansatz is obtained; (iii) the quantum twisted Yangian which is associated to the soliton non-preserving boundary is studied. The symmetry algebra of this spin chains is studied. An exhaustive classification of the invertible matricial solutions to the corresponding reflection equation is given.
