Let \(X\) be a variety and \({\phi}: E_p\rightarrow F_q\) be a map of vector bundles of rank \(p\) and \(q\) respectively. One of classical problems is to determine the class of the degeneracy locus \({\Omega}_r\subseteq X.\) In the simplest case, where \(X\) is a projective space and the vector bundle is the sum of line bundles the problem reduces to finding class of the locus where appropriate matrix drops its rank. This problem was solved in general by Giambelli in 1904 who provided an answer in terms of a determinant in the homogeneous degrees of the entries of the matrix. In modern language this problem is a question of finding formulas in terms of Chern classes. For the account on history of this and the generalization of the determinantal formula to vexillary Schubert varieties in flag bundles see [\textit{W. Fulton}, Duke Math. J. 65, No. 3, 381--420 (1992; Zbl 0788.14044)]. The author uses the formalism of Young raising operators, introduced in this subject by \textit{P. Pragacz} [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 21, No. 3, 413--454 (1988; Zbl 0687.14043); Lect. Notes Math. 1478, 130--191 (1991; Zbl 0783.14031)], and some geometric arguments for proving the analogous determinantal and Pfaffian formulas for the \(K\)-theory classes of degeneracy loci. In an appendix to the paper the author constructs an Euler class in \(K\)-theory for even-rank vector bundles with quadratic form. This class refines the Chow-theoretic class introduced by \textit{D. Edidin} and \textit{W. Graham} [J. Algebr. Geom. 6, No. 3, 431--443 (1997; Zbl 0922.14003)]. Unfortunately, some formulas in the paper are erroneous, therefore the paper should be read along with the corrigendum that has recently been published by the author [ibid. 356, Article ID 106812, 3 p. (2019; Zbl 1427.14101)].
