Bifurcations of corank greater than two (Q2365554)

The authors study the solution branches of stable and unstable bifurcations in three-dimensional semilinear elliptic eigenvalue problems of the form \(\Delta u + \lambda f(u)=0\) in \([0,1]^ 3\) with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. The solution branches of the discretized problem are traced numerically by a continuation method. A local perturbation technique is used to treat multiple solution branches. Recent fast solvers for large sparse continuation problems are reviewed. Numerical results on corank 3 bifurcation points with computer graphic output are reported.
