The authors derive an analytic solution of the Helmholtz equation for the scattering of a TE-polarized plane wave by a film with a local Kerr-like nonlinearity. This film separates two semi-infinite media. The film and the semi-infinite media are non-absorbing, non-magnetic, isotropic and homogeneous. Criteria are established for unbounded field intensities to be represented in terms of the imaginary half-period Weierstrass' \(\wp\)-function. The reflectivity and its critical values are calculated as a function of the film thickness and transmitted intensity. The paper is very nicely written and illustrated.
