Spectra of modules (Q5952418)

The paper discusses a category of spectra of modules over an associative ring \(\Lambda\). It is shown that the homotopy category of exact complexes of projective \(\Lambda\)-modules has a number of formal properties, which are similar to those one obtains by passing from CW-complexes to the stable homotopy category of CW-spectra in algebraic topology. More precisely, the main result of this paper says that this category of spectra is a compactly generated triangulated category, provided that \(\Lambda\) is an Artin algebra. As an application, the author proves that the category of Gorenstein-projective modules, in the sense of \textit{E. E. Enochs, O. M. G. Jenda}, and \textit{J. Xu} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 348, No.~8, 3223-3234 (1996; Zbl 0862.13004)], is contravariantly finite in the category of all \(\Lambda\)-modules. The category of spectra appeared before in work of \textit{M. Grandis} [Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 118, No.~2, 254-285 (1995; Zbl 0843.18007)] and \textit{A. Beligiannis} [Commun.
