The singular boundary value problem for the one-dimensional \(p\)-Laplacian \[ (\varphi(u'))' + g(t,u,u')=0 , \quad t \in(0,1),\qquad u(0)=u(1)=0, \] is considered, where \(\varphi(s)= |s|^{p-2}s\), \(p\geq 1\), and \(g\) is a continuous function on \((0,1)\times (0,+\infty) \times \mathbb{R}\). Here, singularities may appear at \(u=0\), \(t=0\) and \(t=1\), moreover, the function \(g\) may change sign. After providing a result on upper and lower solutions, suitable for the \(p\)-Laplacian, the authors prove an existence theorem under certain growth assumptions on function \(g\). The present theorem extends results given by the same authors in [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 252, 631-648 (2000; Zbl 0977.34016)] and by \textit{P. Habets} and \textit{F. Zanolin} in [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 181, 684-700 (1994; Zbl 0801.34029)] for analogous problems.
