On the relaxed elastic line on pseudo-hypersurfaces in pseudo-Euclidean spaces (Q1883543)

Let \(E_{\nu}^{n}\) be a \(n\)-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean space of signature \((n- \nu, \nu)\). The paper under review deals with some elasticity problems on pseudo-hypersurfaces in pseudo-Euclidean spaces \(E_{\nu}^{n}\). At first the intrinsic equations for a relaxed elastic line of length \(l\) on a pseudo-hypersurface in pseudo-Euclidean spaces \(E_{\nu}^{n}\) are determined in terms of a differential equation together with some special boundary conditions. A necessary and sufficient condition for the arc of a geodesic on a general pseudo-hypersurface to be a relaxed elastic line is also given. Secondly, the above mentioned characterizations are applied to the cases of pseudo-hyperplane, pseudo-hypersphere and pseudo-hyperbolic space, respectively. Finally, an important application is provided by applying the general theory to the case of elastic line on a pseudo-hypercylinder.
