Let F be a local non-Archimedean field. \textit{A. V. Zelevinskij} introduced an involution t on the Grothendieck group \(R_ n\) of the category of all smooth representations of finite length of GL(n,F) [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér., IV. Sér. 13, 165-210 (1980; Zbl 0441.22014)]. He conjectured that t maps the irreducible representations to irreducible representations. J. N. Bernstein proved this and he conjectured that the involution t maps the irreducible unitarizable representations to unitarizable ones. In this paper we prove this conjecture. In another paper of mine ''On the classification of irreducible unitary representations of \(GL(n)\) and the conjectures of Bernstein and Zelevinskij (non-Archimedean case)'' we obtain the classification of irreducible unitary representations of \(GL(n,F)\) for \(n\leq 11\) and an explicit formula for the involution t in terms of this classification. \textit{A. V. Zelevinskij} conjectured a description of the involution t in terms of orbits of algebraic group [Funkts. Anal. Prilozh. 15, No.2, 9-21 (1981; Zbl 0463.22013)]. This conjecture implies the classification of irreducible unitary representations of GL(n,F) for all n, and an explicit formula for the involution t.
