The authors investigate a first order differential operator equation \(l[y]=y-Ay=f(t)\), where \(A\) generates a \(C_0\)-semigroup on a Hilbert space \(H\). They define a maximal operator \(L\) and a minimal operator \(L_0\) generated by the differential expression \(l[y]\) in the space \(L^2([0,b], H)\). Suppose that an operator \(M\) satisfies \(L_0\subset M \subset L\). \(M\) is said to be solvable if \(M^{-1}\) exists as a bounded operator defined on the whole space \(L^2([0,b], H)\). The authors obtain sufficient and necessary conditions for \(M\) being solvable.
