Let \(B\) be a uniformly convex and uniformly smooth Banach space, let \(G\) be a convex closed subset of \(B\), and let \(A:G\rightarrow G\) be a nonexpansive mapping. Let \(\{G_n\}\) be a sequence of, in some sense, ``perturbed'' sets of \(G\) and let \(\{A_n\}\) be a sequence of perturbed mappings of \(A,\,A_n:G_n\rightarrow G_n\) that satisfy a certain proximity condition. In order to approximate the fixed points of \(A\), the author considers the iterative projection scheme \(\{v_n\}\) given by \[ v_{n+1}=Q_{G_{n+1}}(v_n-\omega_n(v_n-A_nv_n)),\;n=0,1,2,\dots, \] where \(Q_{G_{n+1}}\) is the sunny nonexpansive retraction of \(B\) onto \(G_n\) and \(\{\omega_n\}\) is a sequence of positive numbers. The main result of the paper (Theorem 3.3) establishes the weak convergence and stability of bounded sequences \(\{v_n\}\) to a fixed point of \(A\), under several assumptions involving the geometrical properties of the ambient space \(B\). Strong convergence theorems for approximating fixed points of \(A\) are also obtained as corollaries of the main result.
