If the position vector \(f\) of a non degenerate Blaschke hypersurface in \(\mathbb R^{n+1}\) is transversal then there exists a nonvanishing function \(\rho\), so that \(c_f=f-\rho\xi\) is a tangent vector, where \(\xi\) is the affine normal. The vector field \(c_f\) is called the center map of \(f\) and \(c_f\) is constant iff \(f\) is a proper affine hypersphere. The center map was first investigated by \textit{H. Furuhata} and \textit{L. Vrancken} [Result. Math. 49, 201--217 (2006; Zbl 1117.53015)]. In case of definite surfaces (\(n=2\)) they gave a complete classfication of immersions \(f\) which are affinely congruent to their center map. The present paper deals with this problem in case of positive definite improper affine hyperspheres. The author proves that a positive definite improper affine hypersphere has a center map congruent to the original immersion if and only if it is locally given as the graph of a solution of the Monge-Ampère equation which is homogeneous of degree two. Secondly the author proves a relation between \((n-1)\)-dimensional elliptic affine hyperspheres and definite improper affine hyperspheres which are congruent to their center map.
