Let \((S,\cdot,\leq)\) be a partially ordered monoid and let \(A\) be a partially ordered set. Then \(A\) is called a left \(S\)-poset, denoted by \(_SA\) if \(S\) acts on \(A\) in such a way that: (i) the action is isotone in each of the variables, (ii) \(s(ta) =(st)a\) for any \(s,t\in S\), \(a\in A\), (iii) \(1a=a\) for any \(a\in S\). If \(a\in S\) then \(Sa=\{sa\mid s\in S\}\) is called a cyclic \(S\)-subposet of \(A\). Finally, \(_SA\) is called flat if the functor \(A\otimes-\) takes embeddings in the category of all left \(S\)-posets to monomorphisms in the category of all partially ordered sets. In this paper, several types of flatness of cyclic \(S\)-posets are studied. Also certain partially ordered monoids \(S\) are characterized by flatness properties of left \(S\)-posets. For instance, any projective left \(S\)-poset is free if and only if \(e{\mathcal D}1\) for any \(e\in E(S)\), where \(\mathcal D\) denotes Green's relation.
