First-order systems of partial differential equations of the form \(\nabla f= M\nabla g\), \(M\) is a constant matrix, are under consideration on vector spaces over the fields of real and complex numbers. A bilinear \(*\)-multiplication is introduced on the solution space -- it plays the role of a nonlinear superposition principle, that allows for algebraic construction of new solutions from known solutions. The Cauchy-Riemann equations belong to this class. The gradient equation \(\nabla f= M\nabla g\) is a simple special case of a large class of systems of partial differential equations, admitting a \(*\)-multiplication of solutions. It is proved that any gradient equation has the exceptional property such that the general analytic solution can be expressed as \(*\) - power series of certain simple solutions.
