Finite time blowup is expected to occur for nonnegative solutions \((u,v)\) to the Keller-Segel chemotaxis system \[ \partial_t u = \nabla\cdot (\nabla u - u \nabla v), \quad \tau\partial_t v = \Delta v + u, \quad (x,t)\in \mathbb R^n\times (0,\infty), \] when \(\tau>0\) and actually does take place if \(\tau=0\). Owing to the scaling invariance of the equations, the existence (or non-existence) of blowing-up (or backward) self-similar solution of the form \[ u(x,t) = \frac{1}{T-t}\;\Phi\left( \frac{x}{\sqrt{T-t}} \right), \qquad v(x,t) = \Psi\left( \frac{x}{\sqrt{T-t}} \right), \] is a natural question and the following non-existence result is established here: If \(n\geq 3\), \(\tau=0\), and \(\Phi\) is assumed to be nonnegative and in \(L^1(\mathbb R^n)\cap L^{n/2}(\mathbb R^n)\), then necessarily \(\Phi=\Psi=0\). If \(n\geq 2\), \(\tau=1\), \(\Phi\) is a nonnegative function in \(L^1(\mathbb R^n;(1+|x|)^{-m}\,dx)\) for some \(m>1\), and \(\nabla\Psi\) is locally bounded, then \(\Phi=\Psi=0\). The proof relies on an integral identity for \(\Phi\) and scaling arguments.
